Townsville City Council spends $190000 to get Australian Swim Team and 2016 Grand Prix , Cairns Regional Council spends $29 MILLION TO HOPEFULLY GET A GRAND PRIX—–Townsville potential 2016 Grand Prix venue says Swimming Australia | Townsville Bulletin————-The council spent $190,000 to upgrade Long Tan Memorial Pool to host events such as this, including the timing facility, a hot-water system and new lane ropes, and it’s likely to have been worth it. Verhaeren was delighted with the quality of racing in front of good crowds and said there was a strong chance the team would be back in 2016 as part of preparations for the next Olympics.
