Labor lies at STATE ELECTION to be exposed now——Ergon will have to cut staff like in NSW —-How will the Treasurer keep his promise to pay off the debt from Ergon DIVIDENDS——-Axe set to fall on Ergon Energy in bid to slash consumers’ power prices | Cairns Post
Electrical Trades Union Far Northern organiser Michael Haire said if the AER recommended cuts were required within Queensland, the union would push for these to be made within Ergon management.
“For us, we would be looking to put as much pressure on as we can to ensure that frontline jobs remain, frontline services are not compromised, and as many as those jobs that actually deliver for Queenslanders are protected, and that they look to find those savings elsewhere,’’ he said.
Ergon Energy employs at least 300 workers across the Far North from Tully to Torres Strait, while Energex only employs staff as far north as Gympie.
Mr Haire said the Far North could not handle further job cuts, which would come on top of at least 500 positions cut across the state last year as part of Ergon’s restructure.
