“Recent research showed that Tropical North Queensland is more evocative, a better selling point, catchy and aspirational,’’ he said.

Mr de Waal said “tropical” was more attractive and alluring for visitors, and Far North Queensland was a throwback to the past.

“While Far North Queensland is most recognised, the name is very inferior (to Tropical North Queensland). We need a name that will motivate people to travel to this destination,’’ Mr de Waal said
