However, Mr Nicholls said the superstadium would need to pass a cost-benefit analysis before securing any funding.

“A proposal needs to stack up economically,” he said. “We need to understand what its usage will be and what its utility to the community will be.

“Is Townsville City Council going to contribute and how much are they prepared to contribute? Is the (NRL) prepared to contribute as the major beneficiary of the stadium?

“Those all go into our consideration of whether that is an appropriate investment.

“It will be competing with other claims for investments of those (infrastructure) funds.”

  1. Hi Raj, The Cowboys and the NRL are a great benefit to Townsville, Try get a hotel, motel room or a plane ticket into Townsville on the weekend that the Cowboys are playing. It is as good for business as our ironman triathlon but twelve times a year plus two or three trial games and without the disruption to traffic and business along the Cook Highway. Regards Nelson.
