Should cuts be made to public money for political parties

In the federal sphere, there is more than enough money to go around from both private and public funding of political parties. Neither major party is doing it tough. The Liberal Party’s total revenue was $73 million last year; the Labor Party $55 million.

The first Hockey Budget may contain cuts to the public funding of political parties. If pain is to be felt across the board as the PM and the Treasurer have said repeatedly, then surely electoral funding will not be immune from cuts. I just wouldn’t bet a five grand chicken dinner on it.
